Still have questions?

Our admissions team is here to help you figure out the right path.

GETTING STARTED

No prior flight experience is needed. Our Airline Pilot Academy is specifically designed for students starting from scratch. You'll go from your very first flight lesson to earning every certificate and rating required for an airline career — all at one school, with one team behind you.

The first step is reaching out to our admissions team. We'll schedule a free, no-obligation consultation to discuss your goals, walk through program options, review timelines, and answer any questions. From there, we'll guide you through enrollment, medical requirements, and getting your start date locked in.

You'll need to obtain a First Class Medical Certificate from an FAA-designated Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) before beginning flight training. We strongly recommend getting this done early in the process, and our admissions team can point you toward local AMEs and walk you through what to expect.

You can begin flight training at any age, but you must be at least 16 to solo and 17 to earn your Private Pilot Certificate. For the Commercial Pilot Certificate, the minimum age is 18. There is no upper age limit — many of our students are career changers in their 30s, 40s, and beyond.

Absolutely. We encourage prospective students to tour our facility at Falcon Field Airport in Mesa, Arizona. You'll get to see the aircraft, meet our team, and get a firsthand look at the training environment. Contact our admissions team to schedule a visit.

PROGRAMS & TRAINING

Our full Airline Pilot Academy programs include six certificates and ratings: Private Pilot Certificate (PPL), Instrument Rating, Commercial Pilot Certificate, Certified Flight Instructor (CFI), Certified Flight Instructor — Instrument (CFII), and Commercial Multi-Engine Add-On. This is the complete certificate stack that airlines require.

Full-time students in our Airline Pilot Academy typically complete training in 12 to 14 months. Your exact timeline depends on scheduling, weather, and individual progress — but Mesa's 350+ VFR days per year help keep you on an accelerated pace.

Our Credit for PPL program is designed for students who already hold their Private. You'll pick up right where you left off — starting with your Instrument Rating and continuing through Commercial, CFI, CFII, and Multi-Engine Add-On. You still get the full Airline Pilot Academy experience, including Aviator Assurance and Unlimited Ground School.

The Pinnacle Pathway is our career fast-track program. It combines your flight training with an airline cadet pathway, giving you a structured bridge from training to airline employment. It's available to students enrolled in our Airline Pilot Academy or Credit for PPL programs and provides a direct route to airline hiring once you've built the required flight hours.

We fly Piper Archers for all single-engine training — from your first flight through your CFI and CFII certificates. For multi-engine training, we use the Piper Twin Comanche. Both aircraft are well-maintained, reliable, and widely used in professional flight training environments.

Aviator Assurance is a program-exclusive benefit available to students enrolled in our Airline Pilot Academy, Credit for PPL, and Pinnacle Pathway programs. It provides added training protection to help keep you on track if you need extra flight time beyond the standard program hours. Contact our admissions team for full details.

Unlimited Ground School gives you unlimited access to ground instruction throughout your training — no per-session fees, no limits. It's included exclusively in our Airline Pilot Academy, Credit for PPL, and Pinnacle Pathway programs. You can review material, prep for checkrides, and get extra help whenever you need it.

COST & FINANCING

We provide transparent, detailed cost breakdowns on our Cost & Tuition page. Program costs vary based on the track you choose and your starting point. We encourage you to review the pricing page and then speak with our admissions team to get a clear picture of your total investment.

We offer multiple financing paths: ELMSelect financing and VA educational benefits are available through our affiliation with Dodge City Community College (DCCC). Stratus Financial offers flight training loans directly. We also offer a Custom Payment Plan for students who want to structure payments on their own terms. Contact our admissions team to discuss which option works best for your situation.

VA educational benefits — including the GI Bill — are available through our affiliation with Dodge City Community College. Students enrolled in the College Degree Pathway through DCCC may be able to apply their VA benefits toward flight training costs. For questions about VA benefit eligibility and how to apply, we recommend contacting Dodge City Community College directly or reaching out to our admissions team to get connected.

ELMSelect financing for flight training is available through our affiliation with Dodge City Community College. Students enrolled in the College Degree Pathway through DCCC can explore education financing options to help cover tuition and training costs. Contact our admissions team to learn more about the application process.

The College Degree Pathway is made possible through our affiliation with Dodge City Community College (DCCC). Students enrolled in their program complete flight training at our facility while simultaneously working toward an associate degree. This pathway also unlocks access to ELMSelect financing and VA educational benefits through DCCC. All six certificates and ratings are included.

We believe in full pricing transparency. Our Cost & Tuition page provides a complete breakdown of what each program includes — flight hours, ground school, examiner fees, testing fees, and materials. We lay out the numbers upfront so there are no surprises.

CAREER & AIRLINES

Most graduates build their remaining flight hours by working as a Certified Flight Instructor (CFI). Many of our graduates instruct right here at Venture West Aviation, earning a salary while logging the hours needed to meet the FAA's 1,500-hour ATP requirement for airline hiring.

From start to finish, most pilots reach the airlines in approximately 2 to 3 years total — about 12 to 14 months of training, followed by 12 to 18 months of hour-building as a CFI. Mesa's busy training environment means CFIs build hours efficiently.

The airline industry is experiencing sustained, strong demand for pilots. Regional and major airlines are actively hiring and offering competitive compensation, signing bonuses, and accelerated upgrade timelines. It remains one of the strongest job markets in aviation history.

Airlines care about your certificates, ratings, flight hours, and professionalism — not where you went to school. That said, training at a structured, airline-focused academy like Venture West Aviation ensures you graduate with the complete certificate stack, the discipline, and the readiness that airlines are looking for.

First-year regional airline first officers typically earn between $80,000 and $120,000+, with rapid pay increases. Captains at major airlines can earn $300,000 to $500,000+ annually. The financial return on flight training investment is significant over the span of a career.

TRAINING & DAILY LIFE

Full-time students typically fly once or twice per day and attend ground school sessions in between. Your schedule is structured but flexible depending on weather and aircraft availability. Most students are at the airport 5 to 6 days per week during active training phases.

Mesa offers 350+ VFR (Visual Flight Rules) days per year, making it one of the most consistent flight training environments in the country. Minimal weather delays mean you stay on schedule. Falcon Field Airport provides a professional, controlled training environment without the congestion of a major commercial airport.

Our full-time programs are intensive and require significant daily commitment. While some students manage part-time work, we recommend focusing on training full-time for the best results and fastest timeline. Financing options are available to help support you during training.

Checkride failures happen — even to great pilots. If you need to retake a checkride, your instructor will work with you to identify and address any weak areas before you retest. Students enrolled in programs with Aviator Assurance have additional training protection built in to help with situations like this.

Our structured academy programs are designed for full-time students. However, if you're interested in training at your own pace, our Individual Certificate program allows you to pursue specific certificates and ratings on a schedule that works for you. Contact our admissions team to discuss your options.
