YOUR AIRLINE PILOT CAREER
From First Flight to the Flight Deck
Prepared on September 15, 2026 · Venture West Aviation · Falcon Field (KFFZ), Mesa, AZ
Becoming an airline pilot is one of the most rewarding career decisions you can make. The path is structured, well-defined, and thanks to the current pilot shortage, more accessible and lucrative than ever before. Whether you're 18 or 48, have no flight experience or hold a private license, there is a pathway that works for your situation.
The aviation industry is in the midst of an unprecedented pilot shortage. Major U.S. airlines need an estimated 60,000+ new pilots over the next decade. This shortage has driven first-year regional airline pay from $40K to over $80K–$130K, created signing bonuses of $10K–$100K+, and accelerated career progression timelines. There has never been a better time to become a pilot.
At Venture West Aviation in Mesa, Arizona, we've built our programs around one goal: getting you from where you are today to the airlines as efficiently, safely, and affordably as possible. With 350+ VFR days per year, a modern fleet with glass cockpit avionics, and multiple financing options, we remove the barriers that hold aspiring pilots back.
This roadmap gives you a high-level overview of the complete journey. Our admissions team will work with you to identify the best program for your specific goals, experience level, timeline, and budget.

15–20 days off per month at major airlines. Bid for routes and schedules based on seniority.
JOB SECURITY
Near-zero unemployment. Airlines are short 60,000+ pilots over the next decade. Demand is only growing.
The Cost of Waiting
Every year you delay starting your training is a year of airline-level income at the end of your career that you'll never earn. If a major airline captain earns $400K+ per year, waiting just one year to start means approximately $400K in lifetime earnings lost. Waiting 3 years? Over $1 million. The math is simple: the sooner you start, the more you earn over your career.
